Estanis Ruiz, a freshman at Loyola Marymount representing Spain, placed fifth in his semifinal heat in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase in 8:29.12 to advance to the final at the NCAA Division 1 Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. It marked the first male athlete from Loyola Marymount to qualify for a championship race in any event since 2014.
